Shabbat Friendly National Youth Leadership Training Course (NYLT)
July 6 - July 11, 2008 (Sunday through Friday)
Los Angeles, CA
National Youth Leadership Training is an exciting, action-packed program designed for councils to provide youth members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others. The NYLT course centers around the concepts of what a leader must BE, what he must KNOW, and what he must DO. The key elements are then taught with a clear focus on HOW TO. The skills come alive during the week as the patrol goes on a Quest for the Meaning of Leadership. NYLT is a six-day course. Content is delivered in a troop and patrol outdoor setting with an emphasis on immediate application of learning in a fun environment. Interconnecting concepts and work processes are introduced early, built upon, and aided by the use of memory aids, which allows participants to understand and employ the leadership skills much faster. Through activities, presentations, challenges, discussions, and audio-visual support, NYLT participants will be engaged in a unified approach to leadership that will give them the skill and confidence to lead well. Scouts must be age 13+ and be First Class rank. Any troop leader can attend.

Shabbat Friendly Wood Badge Course
Every boy deserves a trained leader! Wood Badge for the 21st Century was developed for all Scouters: Cub Scout leaders, Boy Scout leaders, Venturing leaders, and council and district leaders. It is the BSA's core leadership skills training course focusing on a person's ability to work with and lead groups of youth and adults. The emphasis is on leadership skills, not outdoor skills. The first part of the Wood Badge course reflects unit meetings, while the second part of the course uses a troop camping activity as its delivery model.
