The Requirements

I. Jewish Names

   Provide the following Jewish names:

   A. Your own_____________________

   B. Your mother's ____________________

   C. Your father's _________________________

   D. One grandfather's _________________________

   E. One grandmother's _________________________

   F. A synagogue in your area _______________

II.   Jewish Holidays

   Provide the Hebrew names of four of the following Jewish
   holidays. In addition, tell three facts about each of the four
   and carry out at least one suggested activity connected with
   each of the four holidays.

   A. Passover______________________

   B. New Year___________________

   C. Day of Atonement _________________

   D. New Year of the Trees __________________

   E. Sabbath ____________________________

   F. Feast of Booths _______________________

   G. Feast of Weeks ________________________

   H. Israel Independence Day _________________________

III. Jewish Terms

   What does each of these terms mean? Mention two occasions when
   you might use each of them.

IV.  Jewish Symbols, Objects, and Articles

   Identify five of the following objects. Indicate how they are
   used. Draw three of the five articles or construct them out of
   wood, oaktag, cardboard, styrofoam, metal, or other materials,
   as suggested late?

   A.   Siddur

   B.   Shofar

   C.   Mezuzah

   D.   Matzah

   E.   Lulav

   F.   Menorah

   G.   Dreidel (called "Svivon" in Hebrew)

   H.   Tallit (some pronounce it "tallis")

   I.   Haggadah

   With the approval of the counselor, you may substitute two of
   the following for two of the above symbols: Magen David (Star
   of David), Afikoman, Gragger, Kippah (yarmulkah), Aron
   Ha-Kodesh (Holy Ark).

V. Jewish Community Helpers
   Briefly tell what two of the following persons do. In both cases,
   give the name of one such person in your community or in a nearby
   one. Interview one of them.

   A.   Rabbi

   B.   Cantor (Hazzan)

   C.   Jewish Educator (principal, teacher, etc.)

   D.   Jewish Community Center Worker (I.C.C. or YM-WHA)

   If you wish, you may substitute a Sofer (scribe), a Jewish
   family worker, or a Jewish Federation worker for one of the
   above.

VI.  Jewish Heroes

   Tell briefly about five of the following important Jews.

   A.   Abraham

   B.   Moses

   C.   King David

   D.   Mordecai

   E.   Judah Maccabee

   F.   Hillel

   G.   Rabbi Akiba

   H. Haym Salomon

   I.   Theodor Herzl

   J.   Anatoly (Natan) Shcharansky

   of the following for three of the above names: Deborah, Queen
   Esther, Maimonides, Chaim Weizmann, David Ben Gurion, Golda
   Meir.
