Jerrold Lockshin, former Chairman of the National Jewish Committee on Scouting, passed away on Thursday, July 2. Jerry's Scouting career began 70 years ago in Youngstown, Ohio. As an adult, he became President of the Buckeye Council, was Vice President of the BSA's Central Region, and went on to become the 11th Chairman of the NJCOS. His Scouting honors included the Shofar Award, Silver Beaver, Silver Antelope, and the Silver Buffalo awards.
Many looked forward to receiving the NJCOS Newsletter with his signature column, "Jerry's Jottings". In addition to his passion for Scouting, Jerry was involved with numerous civic and fraternal organizations. His affable and effervescent personality permitted him to reach out to thousands of Scouts and Scouters and left an indelible mark on anyone he touched.
His family has asked that those wishing to remember Jerry may due so by making a contribution to the:
National Jewish Committee on Scouting Boy Scouts of America PO Box 152079 Irving, TX 75015-2079
There is no doubt that his absence will be felt by many. May the Great Scoutmaster, and Leader of all Good Scouts, be with him and watch over him.
