Conference Registration and Attire.

Registration is now open and runs through October 1, 2009, but space is limited so please register early.  The host council's conference facilities can only accommodate the first 45 people who register.  Through the generosity of the Western Los Angeles County Council Jewish Committee on Scouting, which has agreed to underwrite some of the catering and sponsor lunch, the registration fee has been reduced to $30.00, which includes a light breakfast, lunch, mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks and all conference materials.  Individuals are responsible for their own travel and lodging (see below).  Sorry, but no refunds for cancellations after October 1, 2009.

Conference Location and Food

The Conference will take place on Sunday, October 25, 2009, start time as set forth on the Agenda page, at the Anna Ruggieri Service Center of the Western Los Angeles County Council BSA (Host Council), 16525 Sherman Way, Unit C-8, Van Nuys, California 91406. A light breakfast and lunch, with mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks, all kosher (dairy or parve), will be served as a part of the conference.

Hotel Accommodations

The closest hotel to the conference is the Airtel Plaza Hotel in Van Nuys. The hotel is an easy walk (0.7 miles) to and from the Council Service Center where our conference will take place.  Please make your own arrangements at this hotel, or any other, for your visit.  A small block of rooms (on a first come first served basis) has been reserved at the Airtel at a discounted rate.  Individuals are responsible for their own room, tax and incidentals including parking.  To obtain your reservations at the discounted rate, contact the Airtel Plaza Hotel directly at 818-997-7676 or Reservatiions at 800-2-AIRTEL by no later than October 1, 2009, but the sooner the better.  The "best available rate" will be extended after the cut off date, but if you are tardy see if the hotel will honor the discount anyway.  The discounted rate is available for the night of October 24, 2009, and will be honored for a few days before and a few days after if you are planning more than a one-night visit, but make sure to get confirmation about this from the hotel.  When making your reservations identify the Group Name as "Boy Scouts of America" and signify that your reservation is for the "Western Region Conference."  Please note that the Airtel does not have a kosher kitchen or Shabbat elevators.

Shabbat Hospitality

For those religious Scouters/conference attendees who require Shabbat Hospitality, arrangements may be made with families of Cub Scout Pack 613 and Boy Scout Troop 613 chartered to Shaarey Zedek Congregation (Orthodox) in nearby Valley Village. Contact Brian Leyton, a registered leader with Troop 613, to make such arrangements.
