South Florida Council news

Steven Yermish, the South Florida Council Jewish Committee on Scouting chair reports a very successful past year. “We had a successful workshop, a wonderful Scoutmasters Camporee, Scout Shabbat Service and our first Council Kinnus in many year,” he reports. Among the training for Jewish Scouters this past year was a special Sunday BALOO course.

Yermish extends congratulations to longtime South Florida Council member Sam Harte, who now serves as the Southern Region Chair for the NJCOS..

A Kinnus is scheduled at Camp Elmore for the Martin Luther King holiday weekend (January 12-20), which will allow a number of Shabbat-observant events and, later, other activities. Girl Scouts will also be invited, according to Yermish. Leaders for the Kinnus will be Rabbi Avraham Levy, Alex Hochberger and Stan Hoff. Hoff recently returned from a very hard stint at reception for the 2013 National Jamboree at the Summit.

Yermish also announces an upcoming JCOS organizational meeting will be held just prior to the High Holidays on Wednesday, September 3, at 6:30 the Tatham Scout Center in Miami Lakes.
