Establishment of the National Jewish Committee on Scouting
By January 1925, plans were well underway to establish a National Jewish Advisory Committee on Boy Scout Work, about the same time as the organization of the National Catholic Committee on Scouting. Harry L. Glucksman of the Jewish Welfare Board played a vital role in the organization of the committee, recruiting Dr. Cyrus Adler of Dropsie College in Philadelphia to help. The National Jewish Committee on Scouting was organized in November 1926 with Dr. Adler elected its first Chairman.
In 2026, the National Jewish Committee on Scouting will be celebrating our 100th Anniversary. Plans are currently being made for special 100th Anniversary events and memorabilia. Check back on this page often to see what is coming.
Should you want to help with the planning and/or running of those upcoming events, please contact David Malatzky via email at history@jewishscouting.org.

Tal Kaufman
“I’m Tal Kaufman, a 13-year-old Second Class Scout from Troop 25 in Tenafly, NJ. Starting my journey as a Cub Scout, I’ve grown a lot through Scouting. Now, I’m proud to serve as our troop’s webmaster and Assistant Patrol Leader. But Scouting isn’t my only passion—I love swimming, engineering, and diving into projects with my 3D printer. These hobbies aren’t just fun; they teach me a lot about solving problems and thinking creatively, skills I use in Scouting and everyday life.”
Elliot Copen
“Hi my name is Elliot and I am a new Eagle Scout from Troop 67 in Santa Monica, CA. I joined scouting after I earned my Arrow of Light. I have been serving as Chapter Chief for my local Order of the Arrow chapter. My Jewish faith is very important to me and I am proud to be a Jew as I was Bar Mitzvahed and have earned my Ner Tamid in scouting. “
