NJCOS 2024 scholarship winners announced

The National Jewish Committee on Scouting received nine applications for scholarships this year. Jay Schnapp, chair of the Scholarship Committee selected  the winners of the 2024 NJCOS scholarships based on evaluations of applications by the two NJCOS vice presidents, the four regional chairs, and two past two NJCOS presidents.

The evaluation process used a scoring worksheet directly related to the information requested on the scholarship application form.

The winners of the 2024 NJCOS scholarships are:

Samuel Copen, Pacific Palisades, CA $4,000.00 (Vernon Scholarship, $1,000.00/year for 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027)

Elliot R. Coveler, Houston, TX $3,000.00 (Weil Scholarship)

Jacob H. Friedman, New Smyrna Beach, FL $2,000.00 (Weil Scholarship)

Noah D. Kravetz, Peoria, IL $1,000.00 (Arkans Scholarship)

The NJCOS sent a congratulatory letter and email to each winner. The winners have been asked to submit a short bio and image to post on the NJCOS website.

Additionally, the BSA funds manager has contacted the students to obtain their college account information as these funds are paid directly to the institution of higher education rather than the individual students.

The NJCOS also notified the five applicants who did not win a scholarship to thank them for applying and to notify them that they are “runner-ups.”
