Establishment of the National Jewish Committee on Scouting
By January 1925, plans were well underway to establish a National Jewish Advisory Committee on Boy Scout Work, about the same time as the organization of the National Catholic Committee on Scouting. Harry L. Glucksman of the Jewish Welfare Board played a vital role in the organization of the committee, recruiting Dr. Cyrus Adler of Dropsie College in Philadelphia to help. The National Jewish Committee on Scouting was organized in November 1926 with Dr. Adler elected its first Chairman.
In 2026, the National Jewish Committee on Scouting will be celebrating our 100th Anniversary. Plans are currently being made for special 100th Anniversary events and memorabilia. Check back on this page often to see what is coming.
Should you want to help with the planning and/or running of those upcoming events, please contact David M. Malatzky via email at history@jewishscouting.org.
Promoting the Anniversary
The NJCOS 100th Anniversary is an opportunity for individuals, local and regional committees to organize events to commemorate the anniversary. These events can increase public awareness of Jewish Scouting in their local areas.
Here is how to do it:
- Everyone should do something based on their abilities.
- Everyone should try to attend 100th Anniversary events in their local area or travel to other areas or states. Make new friends!
- The NJCOS will publicize these events via the NJCOS website, email list and Facebook Page.
- The NJCOS will publicize event reports, photos and videos via the NJCOS website, Facebook Page and YouTube Channel.
- Everyone will benefit from the heightened public awareness of Jewish Scouting.
