Elliot R. Coveler
Houston, Texas
Frank L. Weil Memorial Eagle Scout Scholarship ($3,000)
Elliot R. Coveler earned the rank of Eagle Scout in June 2021 as a member of Troop 55 in Houston, Texas. Elliot’s Eagle Scout Service Project focused on restoring habitat for the Attwater Prairie Chicken, a species now found only in Texas. Through collaboration with the Houston Zoo, Texas Master Naturalists, and NASA, Elliot designed and built a set of “clean” greenhouse tables using reclaimed native wood. After construction, the tables were transferred into the greenhouses to support thousands of native grass seedlings used to restore the Texas Coastal Prairie ecosystem of the Brood Hen Preserve located on the grounds of the Johnson Space Center. Through Scouting, Elliot completed a major personal goal, completing all 139 possible Merit Badges—making him one of fewer than 550 scouts ever to accomplish this feat. He earned all four Jewish Scouting religious emblems and numerous other special awards, including all 23 Eagle Palms, National Medal for Outdoor Achievement, and both the Bronze and Silver SuperNOVA Awards. Elliot served in multiple positions of responsibility, including Den Chief, Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Summer Senior Patrol Leader, and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster since 2022. In addition to troop activities, Elliot also served as President of Venture Crew 55 from January 2023-February 2024. He has enjoyed sharing some of his special interests with Troop 55, Troop 54 (girls), and Crew 55 through service as cycling coordinator, campout coordinator, rock climbing instructor, first aid instructor, and shooting sports assistant. Elliot is excited for his next adventure as a new Blue Hen, majoring in Chemical Engineering at the University of Delaware..
